The town of Duck was formed by an act of the NC Legislature under House Bill 882, incorporated on May 1st, 2002. Duck is the newest town on the Outer banks, but despite its age, there are a lot of great things carried over from the establishment of other towns around the Outer Banks, so we want to let you know how Duck came to be.

Before Duck was even close to being a town it was established in 1984 as a North Carolina Beautification District, this way the beauty of the area, as well as its citizens, could be protected. Because of the tax issues by the beautification district, there was an installment of underground power lines. This left the sky and surrounding land open. If Duck had not been established as a beautification dictrict there may be rows upon rows of 30 ft. high power poles up and down Duck Rd.
